Yonas G. Shiferaw is a young, up and coming artist whose artwork inspires thought and creativity, while capturing various sociopolitical landscapes of the world. Born in the farm lands of Ethiopia; eventually he and his family migrated to America. Shiferaw is the youngest of 6 children raised in Columbus, Ohio by a single father that did not speak English. He was initially exposed to art as a child when his distant relative, an artist, lived with his family. Shiferaw’s innate gift went virtually unnoticed until a grade school art class. During his class, he unconsciously sketched a near perfect rendering of the Van Gogh Self-Potrait displayed in the classroom. Shiferaw’s budding talent was only matched by his curiosity of the arts. His thirst for knowledge about his craft led to diverse influences such as Salvador Dali, Jean-Michel Basquait, George Condo, Frida Khalo, and the underground English graffiti artist turned painter Banksy.
Upon finishing school Shiferaw was presented with many opportunities; yet he never deviated from painting. Shiferaw’s style is a clash of abstract and neo-expressionism; his paintings express life experiences, trials and tribulations.
Shiferaw currently resides in New York City.

Entertainment > MOVIE REVIEW: Mesrine Public Enemy #1
by: Paul Hansen
The film follows the dramatic structure and tempo of well known American heist films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Bonnie and Clyde. There are alternating sequences of robberies and escapes leading to an ultimate showdown with law enforcement. If it weren't for the fact that the dialogue is in French, the film would be almost indistinguishable from any other mainline American gangster thriller.read more
