So this week, for "Cocktail of the Week", I decided to sort of break the mold a bit. At first I was going to hang out with Fred and then after drinking several cocktails, i was going to pick one and say, "This 'So and So' is the Cocktail of the Week". But, that is just not what happened. And I know what your thinking...."Who the hell is Fred"....well.....

Fred works for Ilegal Mezcal, if your in the biz, you know him by now, if you don't know him, you either work at an Applebee's, or your just a wanker, as a British bloke may put it!

So Fred and I were discussing the "Cocktail of the Week" column, discussing how to work Ilegal into the mix for this weeks cocktail. my suggestion was that he take me bar hopping and pay for everything,(smart!), then i would decide on a Mezcal cocktail from one of the places we went to, and that would be the "cocktail of the week"..but that is not what happened.

Fred suggested we start the night at Rum House, 228 w.47th in case you didn't know. So, I arrived a bit early, greeted by Michael J Neff, also of Ward III(or is it 3) fame.

The room was alive with an old saloon feeling, yet no dustballs. The piano player was more than grand(no pun intended). The video below is riddled with people getting in the way, but shut your eyes and listen and you will get what I am talking about .

Finally Fred arrived, looking dapper and equipped with his "rollies", smoking filterless is still cool.

Michael and Fred made a few hellos, and then as you can see in video 2, Michael made drinks. One was a tall, "Silver Fizz" of sorts, using a special edition of Ilegal, the second was a spirit forward cocktail which Michael said included an 80 proof bourbon, along with the base of the Illegal.

Both of these drinks blew my mind. Later that night after speaking it up with some ladies fred and I went to Bobo to try a few Mezcal drinks there, THEY SUCKED! i couldn't even finish mine, and it was at that point, that I decided, the "Cocktail of the Week" is any Ilegal Mezcal cocktail made at Rum House. Special thanks to Fred from Ilegal and Michael @ Rum House for making this come to fruition. I hope you all take some time to enjoy both this spirit and this new venue!
