Hangin out at my cousins house in northwest Portland Oregon. The kids have gone to bed, her husband and I just smoked a bowl of some damn fine weed, and now I'm in the mood for a beer. His eyes light up,.."I have just the place!"

We hop into the mommy wagon, their 2001 Volvo(something like that), it had seat warmers, my butt was so toasty! Anyhow, we arrive to the location, this place was a candy store for beer nerds! I mean the biggest and best of everything. We walked around in stoned glee, we finally made a few decisions, and the one I am going to tell you about now, was my favorite of the evening! Mikkeller is the name of the maker and it was their "Black Tie" beer that took the cake for me last night.

The beer was a honey infused stout. A simple beverage with just enough of a sweet touch by the honey. the nose was full of fresh honey comb that smelled like the bees had just manufactured it, then swirling it around in my mouth, I tasted all the nice roasted notes that you would expect from a traditional stout. And then came the finish, a long rich coffee like bite with, wait for it...a peaty scotch note to finish it out. The beer is aged in scotch casks, I dont know what kind of scotch, but i'm guessing something very peaty and smokey. This beer was friggin awesome!. A bit pricey, a 500ml bottle(1.9pints for you laymen) came in at $17.99, but the flavor, aroma and 11.5 percent alcohol seemed to justify every penny. I'm not sure where on the east coast they would sell this beer, but look out for it and maybe you can have a Mikkeller for your next "Black Tie" event.
