Ria Charisse is a wondrous collection of  jewels. As the daughter of a geologist, who grew up playing with  fossils and rocks, Charisse received an early education in earth matters. The byproduct of that education (and the founding lady’s MFA  degree from the Cranbrook Academy of Art), Dear Swallow is a beautiful ensemble of the most elegant, curious nature-inspired bracelets, earrings, rings, necklaces and objects. The collection of Dear Swallow necklaces is extensive, comprised of chains, as well as gemstone-studded and sculptural    necklaces. Chains support small, delicate charms — dogwood fruit, lily pods, wisteria, grass seeds, twigs and laurel. Other charms include anchors, birds, birds’ feet, wishbones and feathers. A chain from which dangles a delicate starfish with a chrysoprase drop is the more refined version of a specimen you may come across in an East Village vintage store, and perhaps the most unexpected is the pistachio on an oxidized silver chain. A gemstone necklace, the gold fill necklace with black spinel, from which red corral branches are suspended, is an ageless, ornate piece. Sculptural necklaces support  colorful magnolia branches and octopus, moth and petal pendants. For  a macabre touch are woodpecker skull and jawbone pendants.

Dear Swallow earrings make for wonderful companions of the brand’s necklaces, as do the rings. Tiny jasmine blossom earrings are exquisitely sculpted and promise to look lovely on the ears. The fox earrings (with aquamarine drops) are one-of-a-kind, refined jewels. The exceptional ring collection is comprised of textured bands and bands with protrusions and strategic cutouts. Some rings are dotted with precious stones, the likes of diamonds and rubies. The jasmine blossoms ring is a thin band (with two jasmine blossoms) that would intertwine delicately around the finger. An amusing supplement to the line, the Buddha ring bears the smiling head of Siddhartha Gautama. Dear Swallow objects are sculptural works of art. Tiny starfish would look lovely strewn across a coffee table, while golden thorn branches would illuminate any interior. Dear me — Dear Swallow has quite a lot to show for itself. An imaginative and magical jewelry collection by Charisse, it could be nature’s swan song. DearSwallow.com
