Do you really understand #occupywallstreet ? When I first started hearing about the protest on Wall Street I wasn't 100% sure of what was going on. Id hear snippets; that civilians were enraged over some sort of money matter and had taken to camping out on the nation's wealthiest stretch of road to show their displeasure, calling themselves "the 99%". I let it go, empathizing with their woes, as I too was unemployed and constantly f***ed by banks and other larger corporations. After discovering WeAreThe99Percent.tumblr.com I became more curious...everyone sharing their problems of layoffs, medical bills, and student loan debts. I figured the 99% had something to do with a figure of national debt. Intrigued even more, noticing I am one of these 99% definitely, I did my research. I learned an enormous amount of what was going on, which is alot for me considering I'm not in the least bit politically inclined. The numbers I found were shocking...the more I read, the more I realized many others across social media had very little clue of the numbers and facts to what is going on. So here, I have compiled a list of facts; mostly numbers and percentages, to put things into perspective for you. •the 1% richest in the world have more money than the other 99% combined • this 1% is full of individuals who make $343,927 or more per year. • this 1% makes 17% of the nations Income •the top 1% has more than $1.2 million in personal and household assets • if you make $32,396 or more per year you are in the top 50% of the world •the top 20% of the population controls 85% of the wealth This makes about 42% of the worlds population financially stable, yet still part of the 99%. Where do you stand??
